Review of Web series-Tabbar
Cast: Pavan Malhotra, Supriya Pathak Kapur, Ranvir Shorey
Director: Ajitpal Singh
STREAMING on SonyLIV, the web-series ‘Tabbar’ (means family in Punjabi) is being much appreciated for breaking the clichéd persona and recounting the journey of a former police officer ,who defies all odds in order to save his family from the consequences of an unfortunate incident.
The riveting tale of a family of four inadvertently gets sucked into a situation that quickly spirals out of control. As the threats multiply, the patriarch is compelled to make desperate choices that push his family into a moral abyss that is hard to climb out of.
The characters in the series are multi-layered, adept in the language of emotions, and convey them through the visual language and not through dialogue.
It's the plot twists and the performances, especially those of Supriya Pathak and Pavan Malhotra, that power this absorbing, intense family drama. The whole premise is a bit dark, the message is that “all lines get blurred, when it comes to your blood.”
The series is directed by Ajitpal Singh and written by Harman Wadala and Sandeep Jain, and they deserve a pat.
A must watch that will steer your heart.
Pavan Malhotra is as commendable as Omkar Singh. He is the driving force behind the web series, expertly steering the pivotal character. Supriya Pathak's character, Sargun is the pinnacle of strength and nurturing. Her primary role as a mother remains unchanged, but her development throughout the course of the show is impressive.Supriya Pathak plays Sargun to perfection, especially in scenes where she feels guilty and suffocates under the constant weight of trying to save her son. In addition, the meticulous attention to detail, from Sargun's round gold bali’s (jhumkas) to the use of Punjabi language and the setup, lends them a more authentic on-screen appearance.
The eight-episode Punjabi/Hindi series utilizes the conventions of a crime thriller to mount an affecting, acute exploration of calamity, culpability, and a clan in crisis.
Pavan Malhotra is one of Bollywood's underrated gems, but he has never gotten his due in the movies. But in Tabbar , he proves, yet again, why he deserves to lead powerful and original stories like this one. He plays a father who is driven by a deep-rooted desire to protect his children and goes to extreme lengths to save them. His expressions speak volumes, his desperation shocks you, and he leaves you hurting—even as he commits one despicable act after the other.
A must watch that will steer your heart.
